613 Drones Launched at Moscow in One Night; Russia Says Most Were Shot Down
A total of 613 drones were launched towards the Russian capital, Moscow, overnight, the state news agency TASS has reported. Russia says most of the drones were brought down.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Telegram that air defence forces destroyed 231 of the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on approach to the city. The remainder were neutralised on distant approaches between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, he said.
The attack is the latest in a series of major drone assaults targeting the Moscow region. In a record attack in September, air defence forces reported shooting down more than 1,600 drones.
Meanwhile, Russia attacked Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-biggest city. The city's mayor, Ihor Terekhov, said on Telegram that an educational institution was damaged in the attack.
The two attacks came on the same night — more than six hundred drones launched at Moscow, and a Russian strike hitting Kharkiv in Ukraine.
According to the Moscow mayor's account, most of the drones were destroyed before they could get close to the city. Although this attack's figure of 613 is below September's record, it continues the pattern of large-scale drone assaults on the Moscow region.
