After Mirpur Century, Sadman Regrets Missed Chance as Bangladesh Collapse to 272

Bangladesh opener Sadman Islam voiced regret that the hosts failed to build a big total from a strong position in the first Test against the West Indies. The first-innings centurion said that if the top-order batters had converted their starts, the team total could have reached 450 or even 500.
Bangladesh began the second day at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on 213 for 3. From there they lost their remaining seven wickets for just 59 runs and were bowled out for 272, missing a big chance to put the West Indies under pressure.
Sadman said losing quick wickets on the second morning was a major blow. He said the situation could have been different if he had stayed longer after his partnership with Litton Das.
Speaking to reporters after the day's play, Sadman said that if he could have stayed at the wicket a little longer or made his innings bigger, the situation might have been different, adding that that was probably where they went wrong.
The opener also stressed the need for top-order batters to turn starts into big innings, saying scores of 150, 170 or 200 from them would have taken the team total much higher.
Sadman did not blame the Mirpur pitch for the batting collapse. He said the West Indies bowlers deserved credit, while also acknowledging the Bangladesh batters' mistakes.
On his own batting plan, Sadman said he tries to play the ball when it comes to him, and that this is always his plan.
