NSI officers pose as patients in Barishal's Babuganj; fake doctor and diagnostic centre fined Tk 1.5 lakh in total

Members of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) posed as patients and took treatment at a fake doctor's chamber. Acting on the information they gathered, the upazila administration then raided premises in Babuganj, Barishal. In the raids, a fake doctor and an illegal diagnostic centre were fined a total of Tk 150,000 through a mobile court.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Asma Ul Husna led two separate raids in the Madhabpasha Bazar area of the upazila on Thursday (29 October) from 6 pm to 11:30 pm.

Sources connected with the raid said a woman named Taslima Akter Anni had long been treating mothers and children for various illnesses in Madhabpasha Bazar without any MBBS or BDS degree. To verify the matter, NSI members went to her chamber in disguise, posing as patients.

Expired medicines were also found at her own pharmacy during the visit. For these offences she was fined Tk 50,000 under section 53 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009. The fine was later collected.

A raid was also carried out at Pallabi Digital Diagnostic Centre in the same area. The centre was found to be conducting various tests and issuing reports without the required certificates and without a pathologist, and its laboratory lacked a proper environment.

For these offences, the mobile court fined the centre's manager, Md Sabbir Sardar, Tk 100,000.

NSI members had been monitoring the diagnostic centre's activities for a long time. The raid was later carried out in coordination with the upazila administration, it was learnt.

NSI members, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer and members of Barishal Airport Police Station were present during the raids.

UNO Asma Ul Husna said such drives would continue in the public interest. She requested everyone to stand by the upazila administration with information.
