The scorecard of the Zimbabwe-Afghanistan match in Sharjah alone made it clear that the game produced a flood of records. Rashid Khan's 200 wickets, Sikandar Raza's century and totals above 200 in both innings — the second T20I delivered one feat after another from both sides. In the end, Afghanistan won by 19 runs.

The two teams scored 423 runs between them in the match. After Afghanistan made 221 for 7, Zimbabwe batted their full 20 overs and stopped at 202 for 5. It is the highest aggregate in a T20 international between the two teams, and also the highest match aggregate in a game played in the United Arab Emirates.

The previous record had come in a Bangladesh-United Arab Emirates match. Last year in Sharjah, the Bangladesh-UAE T20I produced a highest aggregate of 411 runs. That match had lasted 39.5 overs.

Rashid Khan went into the match one wicket short of 200. With the third ball of the ninth over he trapped Zimbabwe's Tadiwanashe Marumani lbw to become the first bowler to reach 200 wickets in T20 internationals.

Batting first after Zimbabwe won the toss and chose to field, Afghanistan lost 4 wickets for just 5 runs. Despite that start, they still finished on 221 for 7 — now the highest team total in T20 internationals after losing 4 wickets for fewer than 25 runs. The previous mark belonged to India, who made 212 for 4 against Afghanistan in Bengaluru in 2024 after slipping to 22 for 4.

Coming in at number six, Azmatullah Omarzai scored 116 off 50 balls with 5 fours and 12 sixes. It is the third-highest innings by a batter at number six or lower in T20 internationals. Top of that list is Belgium's Shaheryar Butt, who stayed unbeaten on 125 against the Czech Republic in 2020. In 2025, Slovenia's Izaz Ali scored 118 against Serbia.

With Omarzai, Ijaz Ahmad Ahmadzai added 142 runs off 59 balls for the sixth wicket — the highest partnership for the sixth wicket or lower in T20 internationals. The previous record belonged to Andre Russell and Sherfane Rutherford, who added 139 for the sixth wicket against Australia in Perth in 2024.

Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza played an unbeaten innings of 106 off 56 balls with 5 fours and 9 sixes. It was the second century of his T20 international career. Scoring a hundred at 40 years and 188 days, Raza became the oldest centurion in T20 internationals. The record had belonged to Gibraltar's Avinash Pai, who made an unbeaten 107 against Bulgaria in 2021 at 39 years and 272 days. Raza's century only reduced the margin of Zimbabwe's defeat.

Having lost the first two T20Is to Afghanistan, Zimbabwe have already lost the series. Raza's side will take the field the day after tomorrow to avoid a whitewash. The third T20I of the series starts in Sharjah at 8:30 pm Bangladesh time that night.
