BCB finalises coaches for women's cricket across all eight divisions, former cricketers in charge
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is moving to implement its plan to appoint coaches at divisional level to advance women's cricket in the country. Appointments for the eight divisions are nearly finalised, according to BCB sources.
According to those sources, five women coaches and three men's head coaches are being appointed across the eight divisions for women's cricket. Assistant coach and manager posts have also been finalised.
Priority in the appointments has gone to former cricketers and holders of Level-1 coaching certificates. The list also includes several former cricketers who played for the national team and in domestic cricket.
Among those named as head coaches, assistant coaches and managers in the finalised list are former women's cricketers such as Reshma Akter Aduri, Arifa Jahan Bithi, Ayesha Rahman Shuktara and Panna Ghosh. The assistant coach and manager lists also include several former players and coaches.
The BCB had earlier announced school cricket at the grassroots alongside divisional women's coach appointments. Sources say implementation of that announcement is now beginning.
Stakeholders believe that regular coaching at divisional level will ease the path for women's cricketers to rise from the grassroots, and that launching this structure across all eight divisions at once will also increase the supply of players for the national team.
