Nayeem strikes with the last ball before lunch as West Indies reach 213 for six, still 59 behind in Mirpur

Bangladesh got their breakthrough with the very last ball before lunch on the third day of the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. Off-spinner Nayeem Hasan trapped Justin Greaves leg before wicket, and West Indies ended the first session on 213 for six in 74.5 overs.
Bangladesh had made 272 in their first innings. In reply, the visitors are still 59 runs behind.
Greaves was dismissed for 46 off 103 balls, falling just short of his third Test half-century. His dismissal broke the 51-run sixth-wicket partnership he had built with captain Roston Chase.
Bangladesh had a chance to remove Chase a few overs earlier. A Nayeem delivery took the edge and went to Mominul Haque at short leg, but the catch was not held. Chase, then on 27, survived, and he was unbeaten on 30 off 42 balls at lunch.
West Indies had resumed the third day on 134 for four. Tagenarine Chanderpaul led the resistance. The son of former West Indies batter Shivnarine Chanderpaul completed the third half-century of his Test career, having debuted in 2022.
Chanderpaul made 56 off 184 balls, with six fours and a six. Together with Greaves, he added 65 runs for the fifth wicket as the visitors tried to close the deficit.
Pacer Shoriful Islam broke that stand. The left-handed opener was caught by Najmul Hossain Shanto at second slip off Shoriful's bowling.
Late on the second day, Taijul Islam had put West Indies under pressure by removing Kavem Hodge and Amir Jangoo in the same over. West Indies will resume the second session on 213 for six, with bowling all-rounder Joshua Bishop set to join Chase at the crease.
