Staff Reporter

A young man named Arian (27) has been killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle in Jatrabari in the capital. The accident happened in the early hours of Friday (30 October) in front of Malancha Community Centre at Janapad Mor under Jatrabari Police Station.

Arian was rescued in a critically injured condition and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The deceased Arian was the son of Kader Bhuiyan of Ramgarh village under Bauphal Police Station in Patuakhali. He lived in the Nabinnagar Mir Hazirbagh area of Jatrabari in Dhaka.

The deceased's brother-in-law Sohag Mia said Arian was a shoe seller by profession and sold shoes on the footpath. At around 3:30am on Friday, while returning home after finishing his business work, a speeding unidentified vehicle hit him in front of Malancha Community Centre at Janapad Mor and drove away, leaving him critically injured on the road.

Sohag Mia said local pedestrians informed him using the mobile phone Arian had with him. He then went to the spot, rescued Arian and first took him to a local hospital. When his condition deteriorated, he was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital at around 5:40am, where doctors declared him dead after examination.

He also said Arian had married a young woman named Mim a year ago. Mim is currently four months pregnant. He said the family cannot accept that Arian died before seeing his child's face.

Inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp, said the body has been kept in the hospital morgue for autopsy. Jatrabari Police Station has been informed of the matter.
