The Oitihya Book Carnival 2026, organised by creative publishing house Oitihya at the Bangla Academy premises, has been extended by seven days. The carnival was scheduled to end on 31 October, but considering readers’ love and huge interest it will now run until 7 November.

The publishing house announced the decision on Friday (30 October) evening. Oitihya said the extension was granted in response to book lovers’ requests and their wish to spend more time with books. The event began on 15 October.

Held under the theme “New day’s stories on Oitihya’s pages”, the carnival aims to build a close connection between readers, writers, publishers and culture-minded people through literature and creativity.

Oitihya said the initiative seeks to highlight the role of literature clubs in developing creativity among students through book reading, writing, literary discussions and cultural activities. By bringing together young people involved in literary practice at various educational institutions, the event creates an opportunity for communication between books, readers and the publishing world.

Oitihya chief executive Arifur Rahman Naim said, “The Oitihya Book Carnival began last year on the occasion of Oitihya’s 25th anniversary. The aim here is not only to sell books; this event is meant to encourage those who work with books and to build a society of books.”

The carnival features a range of themed programmes every day. Notable among them are Writers’ Day, Book Influencer Day, children’s painting and storytelling competitions, a children’s art exhibition, typography and calligraphy workshops, an open-air podcast, Club Day, Publishers’ Day, a tree-identification session at Bangla Academy, the solo play “Shaheed Quadri” and a musical evening.

Alongside these programmes, new books are being unveiled every day. Under the extended schedule, the carnival will continue until 7 November.
