Barcelona ban their own fan group for Alaves match after Clasico incidents

Staff Reporter

Barcelona have banned one of their own supporter groups following incidents at last week's Clasico against Real Madrid. The fan group Gol 1957 will not be allowed into the stadium for Sunday's La Liga match against Alaves.

Barcelona said that, because of the supporters' conduct, the section of the Nou Camp stand known as the Grada d'Animacio will remain closed, amid fears of financial risk and damage to the Catalan club's image.

La Liga had reported 10 disciplinary incidents linked to Barcelona fans during last Sunday's home defeat to Madrid.

One of the allegations was that a fan struck Madrid's Eduardo Camavinga with a flag after the visiting team's winning goal. Real coach Jose Mourinho and left-back Marc Cucurella had also complained of insulting behaviour by the fans.

In a statement, Barcelona said: 'This decision has been taken in view of the multiple investigations opened against the club and some of its members following behaviour contrary to the values of sport. Such behaviour exposes the club to the risk of financial fines and stadium closure, and also damages its image.'

The ban may, however, be limited to a single match for now. Barcelona said club officials will meet representatives of the Gol 1957 supporter group to resolve the problem.

The aim of that meeting is to decide whether the supporter group can be allowed back for Barcelona's next home match, the Champions League game against Aston Villa on 3 November.
