Two Years On, Dwyane Wade's Viral Statue Gets a Makeover as Heat Unveil 'Enhanced' Version
The Miami Heat have unveiled an 'enhanced' version of the controversial statue of franchise legend Dwyane Wade. The original, unveiled two years ago, drew widespread ridicule because it looked nothing like Wade.
The first statue quickly went viral on social media two years ago, with fans complaining that its face bore no resemblance to Wade at all. At the time, it was discussed alongside other famous statue mishaps involving athletes, including Cristiano Ronaldo's.
The Heat describe the new version as an 'enhancement' of the statue. According to the team, the revised statue now looks much more like Wade than the original did.
Even so, the memory of the first statue will not fade easily. Many fans felt the original was so distinctive that it earned a kind of fame of its own, and some say they will miss it.
Wade is honoured as one of the most successful players in Miami Heat history, and the statue was erected in his honour. Fans are now debating how well the corrected version matches that honour.
