Rajshahi board pass rate falls to 45.06 percent, lowest since the autopass year

The pass rate in this year's HSC examinations under the Rajshahi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education has fallen to 45.06 percent. This is the board's lowest pass rate since the autopass year of 2020, during the coronavirus pandemic.
The board's Controller of Examinations, Professor Iffat Zerin, formally announced the results at 11am on Saturday (October 31).
According to the published results, 141,936 candidates had registered under the Rajshahi board this year, of whom 137,356 sat the examinations. Among them, 61,894 passed.
This year, candidates from 743 colleges across the division's eight districts sat their examinations at 208 centres. The controller said 31 candidates were expelled during the examinations this year.
The gender breakdown shows a pass rate of 37.71 percent among boys and 53.03 percent among girls — girls are well ahead of boys in the pass rate.
Girls are also ahead in GPA-5 results. A total of 4,520 candidates under the Rajshahi board achieved GPA-5 this year — 1,965 boys and 2,555 girls.
The institution-wise picture is stark. Only nine colleges across the division's eight districts achieved a 100 percent pass rate this year, while no student passed at all from 39 colleges.
A comparison with recent years shows the pass rate falling steadily. After 100 percent passes in 2020, the board recorded 97.29 percent in 2021, 81.60 percent in 2022, 78.46 percent in 2023, 81.24 percent in 2024 and 59.40 percent in 2025. From there, the rate has now dropped to 45.06 percent.
On the results, Controller of Examinations Professor Iffat Zerin said students received marks exactly as they had written in their answer scripts. No one was given extra marks, she said, and that is why the overall results have been affected.
HSC and equivalent examination results were published simultaneously across the country on Saturday. The average pass rate across all boards is 52.12 percent this year, down from 58.83 percent last year.
