The 2026 HSC results under the Dinajpur Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education show a major decline. The pass rate this year stands at 45.98 percent. Last year it was 57.49 percent, so the rate has fallen by 11.51 percentage points in a year.

Dinajpur Education Board Chairman Professor Elias Ahmed announced the figures on Saturday morning (31 October).

According to the board's published statistics, there were 115,491 HSC candidates under this board in 2026. Of them, 111,787 sat the examinations.

A total of 51,398 candidates passed. That means 60,389 failed — more than half of those who sat the examinations did not pass this year.

A total of 2,953 students obtained GPA-5 this year: 1,383 male students and 1,570 female students, putting female students ahead in top grades.

The board's seven-year comparative statistics show this year's pass rate is markedly lower than in recent years. The rate was 77.56 percent in 2024, 74.48 percent in 2023 and 79.8 percent in 2021. Against those figures, 2026's 45.98 percent is a steep drop.

This year, 32,459 students failed in one subject and 14,236 failed in two subjects.

Some 42 candidates were expelled for adopting unfair means in the examinations.

Students from 668 colleges under the Dinajpur board sat the HSC examinations at 213 centres this year.

Overall, the fall in the pass rate has raised the need for a fresh evaluation of education quality, teaching activities and student preparation. Concerned citizens say analysis and review by the authorities are needed to identify the specific causes behind the decline, and the results have created anxiety among students, guardians and those involved in education.
