The average pass rate in the HSC 2026 examinations under the Jessore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education has stood at 44.92 percent. Both the pass rate and the number of GPA-5 achievers have fallen compared with last year. A total of 3,228 candidates across the board secured GPA-5 this year.

According to Jessore Board data, 112,791 candidates from 570 colleges in the 10 districts of Khulna Division sat this year's HSC examinations. Of them, 50,668 passed.

By stream, 15,167 candidates passed from the science group, 30,191 from humanities and 5,310 from business studies.

Among the GPA-5 achievers, the science group had 1,017 boys and 841 girls, humanities had 268 boys and 897 girls, and business studies had 73 boys and 132 girls.

Last year, the board's average pass rate was 50.20 percent and 5,995 candidates obtained GPA-5. The pass rate has therefore fallen by 5.28 points in a year, while the GPA-5 count has dropped by nearly half.

The decline is also clear in institution-wise results. Only three institutions achieved a 100 percent pass rate this year, down from five last year. On the other hand, 16 institutions had no successful candidate at all, fewer than last year's 20.

Board secretary Professor Dr Abdul Matin said, “We are mainly working to ensure the quality of education. However, work will be done to identify why the pass rate fell in subjects including English and to solve those problems.”

No decision has yet been taken on holding a re-examination for unsuccessful candidates. The board said dissatisfied candidates can apply for re-scrutiny of their answer scripts within seven days starting tomorrow.
