Two students have died by suicide in Magura Sadar upazila after failing their HSC examinations. The two incidents took place at separate times on Saturday (31 October) in the Amuria and Natungram areas of Kuchiamora union in the upazila.

The deceased are Bappi Hossain, 19, of the Mathpara area of Amuria village, and Ananya Sikder, 20, of Natungram.

According to family and local sources, Bappi Hossain sat this year's HSC examinations in the science stream from Bunagati Degree College in Shalikha upazila.

After failing in the results, he died by suicide at his own home after 12 noon on Saturday, family and local sources said.

Ananya Sikder was a student of Kulia Kuchiamora Syed Atar Ali School and College. She also failed this year's HSC examinations.

At around 11:30am on Saturday, out of sight of her family members, she attempted suicide in her own room. Family members later rescued her and took her to a local village doctor, who declared her dead.

Faruk Ahmed, officer-in-charge (OC) of Magura Sadar police station, said the two students died by suicide after failing in the HSC examinations following the publication of the results.

The OC added that legal measures are being taken over the two separate cases of unnatural death.
