Organised, Skilled and Committed Youth Are the Country's Most Valuable Asset: President in National Youth Day Message

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said an organised, skilled and committed youth community is the country's most valuable asset. He emphasised collective initiatives to ensure quality education, modern technological skills and sustainable employment opportunities for young people.
In a message given on Saturday (31 October) for National Youth Day on Sunday (1 November), he said the youth community is the lifeblood of a nation and the main determinant of its development.
The president said young people have played a leading role in all the country's major democratic achievements. These include the historic Language Movement, the great Liberation War, the mass uprising of the 1990s and the student-people's mass uprising of 2024.
Calling this year's theme, 'Skilled youth will build the country, Bangladesh for all', appropriate, the president said a large part of the country's population is young, which represents the country's biggest potential.
He emphasised ensuring proper use of this demographic advantage to ensure inclusive development and to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
The president said that to achieve this goal, quality and employment-oriented education, modern technological skills, improved healthcare and sustainable employment opportunities must be ensured.
He recalled that martyred President Ziaur Rahman had laid the foundation of an integrated plan and programme to transform the youth community into a productive workforce. Former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia further strengthened that initiative.
The president said the present government has taken various programmes and initiatives, involving relevant government and private stakeholders, to make youth development activities stronger and more modern.
As part of these initiatives, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Department of Youth Development are providing training in various fields including agriculture, handicrafts, technical education, freelancing and artificial intelligence, the message said.
Highlighting the importance of young people's active participation in building a healthy and beautiful society, he called on the youth community to build social movements and take up voluntary activities to prevent drug addiction, protect the environment, stop violence against women and children and prevent social degradation.
He called on the private sector, social organisations, affluent individuals and families, alongside the government, to come forward to ensure the overall development and welfare of the youth community and to build a justice-based and humane state.
The president said ensuring dignified employment and a bright future for the youth community must be taken as a collective commitment. He wished overall success to all programmes organised on the occasion of National Youth Day 2026.
