Offensive political message and violence images appear on DMP news portal, hack suspected
An offensive political message and images of violence have appeared on the website of 'DMP News', the online news portal of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). This has raised questions over whether the site has fallen victim to a cyber attack or hacking.
Visitors entering the website late on Saturday night (31 October) saw images showing scenes of violence involving the police displayed instead of the usual news content. Music could also be heard playing in the background of the website.
Later, the DMP News website could no longer be accessed at all.
According to the description published on its website, DMP News is the online news portal of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police. It publishes news about various DMP activities, crime-related news, public awareness information and other police news.
Attempts were made to contact several officials of the DMP's media wing by phone and message for comment on the matter, but no statement from them could be obtained.
