Chhatra Dal holds 'Campus Cleaning Day' at Dhaka University: clean-up from TSC to Doel Chattar to run every Saturday

The Dhaka University unit of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal has observed a 'Campus Cleaning Day' programme at Dhaka University, aiming to protect the environment, promote greenery and build a clean campus.

The clean-up drive was held on Saturday (October 31) on the university campus under the themes 'Green and Clean Campus First' and 'Build the habit of cleanliness, build a vibrant campus'.

As part of the programme, leaders and activists cleaned the road from the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) towards Doel Chattar and the surrounding areas. Leaders and activists from various levels of DU Chhatra Dal, including its hall units, took part voluntarily, in cooperation with Dhaka South City Corporation cleaners and the university administration.

Working in coordination with the cleaners, the Chhatra Dal leaders and activists helped clear accumulated rubbish from the road and various spots nearby, and assisted with spraying for mosquito control.

Those present at the programme included Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahos, president of the Dhaka University unit of Chhatra Dal, general secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon, and senior vice-president Md. Masum Billah, along with leaders of the university committee and various hall units.

During the drive, the organisation's general secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon said they were trying to keep their surroundings clean from their own position, rather than doing one-day showpiece work like other parties. The 'Campus Cleaning Day' programme was taken up with that aim, he said, adding that it would be held regularly every Saturday and that their main goal is to build a pollution-free, clean Bangladesh for future generations.

Inaugurating the programme, DU Chhatra Dal president Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahos said, 'Only if everyone makes a collective effort can the cleanliness of our surroundings be maintained. The Dhaka University unit of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal will always try, together with the city authorities, the university administration and the students, to build a truly green and clean campus.' The organisers said they plan to continue the programme every Saturday to maintain cleanliness on campus and to build environmental awareness and habits of cleanliness among students.
