Iran on highest alert over fears of a US strike, Revolutionary Guard warns of an immediate response
Tehran says it is on the highest state of alert amid fears of possible US military aggression. Brigadier General Yadollah Javani, deputy for political affairs of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has warned that Iranian forces are fully prepared to deal with any kind of hostile situation.
Setting out his position to Iran's semi-official Fars News agency, Yadollah Javani said: 'Whatever plan the enemies make, our army is ready for any situation.' He believes US forces could strike Iran at any moment.
The senior Revolutionary Guard official made clear that this time Iran will not be caught unprepared by a surprise attack. Advance defence preparations have been made to deal with any unwanted situation, and if any strike comes, a response will be given immediately without delay.
Claiming that Tehran has sufficient military capability to destroy a US aircraft carrier, Yadollah Javani gave a stern warning. He said: 'Whichever area the enemies try to enter, whether by launching an airstrike or by crossing the border, it will become a killing field for them.'
Meanwhile, the US outlet MS Now reported last Friday that the United States could launch a short but extremely intense military strike on Iran the day after the 3 November midterm elections are completed.
In that context, Tehran has warned Washington that although the United States may be able to start an attack, that conflict will end on Tehran's own terms. In other words, Washington will be given no opportunity to strike and then withdraw safely, the warning said.
