Life Sentence for Man Who Abducted and Raped Schoolgirl in Jamalpur's Dewanganj
A court has sentenced a man named Md Mahmudul Hasan Sakil (30) to life imprisonment for abducting a schoolgirl in Dewanganj, Jamalpur, on the lure of marriage and raping her. He was also fined Tk 500,000.
Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim of Jamalpur's Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 delivered the verdict at noon on Sunday (1 November). The convict was absent from the court when the verdict was announced.
The convicted man, Mahmudul Hasan Sakil, is the son of Saidur Rahman of Satani Muthuradi area in Sribardi upazila of Sherpur.
According to the case statement and court sources, the schoolgirl went missing from the Taratia Bazar area of Dewanganj on the evening of 12 May 2019. Sakil abducted her after luring her with a promise of marriage.
After the abduction, the girl was taken to a house in Sribardi upazila of Sherpur and raped. She was then held at a rented house in the Deura area of Tongi, Gazipur, and raped multiple times, according to the case.
The schoolgirl's father filed a general diary (GD) at Dewanganj Model Police Station over the incident. Police later rescued the girl from that rented house in Deura, Tongi, on the night of 19 May.
After the rescue, a case was filed and police submitted an investigation report to the court. The court delivered the verdict after recording the testimony of seven witnesses and reviewing the evidence.
Fazlul Haque, public prosecutor (PP) of Jamalpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1, said the court sentenced Mahmudul Hasan Sakil to life imprisonment and fined him Tk 500,000 in the rape case. He said the fine money will go to the victim.
