Tanti Dal Leader Humayun Kabir Hacked to Death at His Own Canteen in Khulna

Humayun Kabir, joint convener of the Khulna city unit of Tanti Dal, has been hacked to death by assailants. On Sunday evening, he was attacked and killed while sitting at his own business, 'Hill Canteen', behind RayerMahal Boro Masjid in the city. The deceased, Humayun Kabir, was the son of Syed Anwar Ali and lived at his home behind RayerMahal Boro Masjid.
According to local sources, Humayun Kabir was sitting at his business when a group of assailants attacked him with local weapons, ramdas and machetes. The attackers hacked him indiscriminately at various places on his body and also struck him in the chest. He was rescued in a critically injured condition and taken to the emergency department of Khulna Medical College Hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead.
The victim's family has blamed the local Chhatra Dal for the killing. His nephew, Syed Didarul Alam Biplob, who was present at the hospital, alleged that the attack was carried out under the leadership of Arafat Hossain, a Chhatra Dal leader of ward 14 of the city, and that his uncle was hacked to death.
Humayun Kabir had contested the councillor post from ward 14 in the last city corporation election, and was preparing to contest from the same ward in the upcoming Khulna City Corporation (KCC) election. Abu Sayeed Sheikh, convener of the Khulna city Tanti Dal, confirmed that Humayun Kabir was the joint convener of the city unit.
Syed Shahjahan Ali, officer-in-charge (OC) of Khalishpur police station under KMP, said that although the spot lies in a border area of Khalishpur and Aranghata police stations, the scene of the incident falls within the Aranghata station area. Calls to Aranghata OC Alimur Rahman's number, however, were not received.
Sudarshan Kumar Roy, deputy police commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police, said he visited the scene after receiving the news. An investigation has been started by collecting information from local people, and the killers will be arrested quickly, he said.
