President calls for affordable healthcare for poor and low-income people
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for building an affordable healthcare system for poor and low-income people. He also urged reducing dependence on foreign countries for healthcare.
The President made the remarks on Sunday evening, November 1, at the annual scientific conference of the Society of Otolaryngologists and Head-Neck Surgeons of Bangladesh at a hotel in the capital.
He called on doctors to serve patients with sincerity and humanity.
The President said ensuring only infrastructure and modern equipment in government hospitals would not be enough. Importance must also be given to appointing the necessary number of doctors and nurses.
He also said doctors' consultation fees and the cost of necessary tests should be set considering people's socio-economic condition.
According to the President, this would allow poor and low-income people to access necessary medical care as well.
