Auto-rickshaw driver Asadul killed in Bogura's Sherpur in plot to sell his vehicle; acquaintance and his grandmother arrested

Police in Bogura's Sherpur say they have uncovered the mystery behind the killing of auto-rickshaw driver Asadul Islam (26). Police say Asadul was killed in order to seize and sell his auto-rickshaw, and his body was then thrown into a river.
Asadul's acquaintance Riad Hossain (21) and Riad's grandmother Rehana Begum (60) have been arrested in the case. According to police, the grandmother helped Riad throw the body into the river to conceal it.
Police arrested them from their home in Chakmuria village of Gabtali upazila in Bogura on Saturday night. Riad, a transport worker by profession, is a resident of Chakmuria village in Gabtali. Rehana Begum's home is in Ranbirbala village of Garidaha union in Sherpur upazila.
Based on information given by them, Asadul's auto-rickshaw was recovered from Bogura town on Sunday morning. On Sunday afternoon, the sharp knife used in the killing was recovered from the Karatoya river in the Ranbirbala area of Sherpur.
Police said Asadul Islam, a resident of Kafura village of Garidaha union in Sherpur upazila, left home with his auto-rickshaw on the afternoon of October 24. He did not return home after that.
The next day, Asadul's mother filed a general diary (GD) at the police station. On the evening of October 27, Asadul's body was recovered from the Karatoya river at Krishnapur Namapara village of Shahbandegi union in the upazila. His mother then filed a murder case against unknown persons.
The case's investigating officer, Sherpur police station investigation officer Joynul Abedin, said Riad admitted during initial questioning to being involved in the killing. He also said his grandmother helped him throw the body into the river.
According to police, on the evening of October 24 Asadul and Riad took yaba together at Rehana Begum's home in Ranbirbala village. At that time Asadul wanted to see a shiny Tk 50 note that Riad had. When Riad refused to hand it over, an argument broke out between them.
Police said that at one point Asadul tried to strike Riad with a pen. Angered, Riad struck Asadul in the throat with a knife kept in the house. Asadul fell to the floor bleeding from the wound. Riad then stuffed cloth into his mouth and pressed on his chest.
The body was then wrapped in a bedsheet and thrown into the Karatoya river beside the house. Police say Riad's grandmother Rehana Begum helped him in this.
Sherpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ekramul Hossain said Riad had planned to sell Asadul's auto-rickshaw. For that purpose, on the afternoon of October 24 he rode in Asadul's auto-rickshaw as a passenger. He then took him to his grandmother's house, where they took yaba in the evening.
The OC said the two arrested persons were sent to a Bogura court on Sunday afternoon.
