India's West Bengal government has taken an initiative to build a magic institute in Kolkata, with the aim of taking the art of magic to a new generation.

The institute will be built in Kolkata by West Bengal's information and culture ministry. It will be the first government magic institute in India.

The institute will be built in the name of Kolkata's internationally renowned magician P C Sorcar.

The aim of building the institute will be to take Bengal's traditional art of magic forward. A magic school will also be built under the institute.

To that end, at a meeting held last Friday at the hall of Nandan, Kolkata's cultural centre, on the state government's initiative, the decision was taken to build the magic institute in Kolkata.

Legendary magician P C Sorcar's son, P C Sorcar (Junior), attended the meeting and gave various suggestions on building the magic institute and the magic school. Also present were P C Sorcar Junior's wife, magic artist Jayashree Sorcar, and his daughter, magic artist Menaka.

An advisory committee was formed that day for this purpose. Magician P C Sorcar (Junior) has been made head of the advisory committee. The committee will include Kolkata's renowned magic artists and distinguished figures. A full committee will be formed later.

Also present at this first meeting were the state's information and culture minister of state, Purnima Chakraborty, and information and culture secretary Soumitra Mohan.
