Former Chhatra League leader Orko Saha detained at DU's Jagannath Hall canteen and handed over to police

Chhatra Dal activists and students have detained Orko Saha, a former social welfare secretary of the Dhaka University unit of the banned Chhatra League, at the university's Jagannath Hall and handed him over to police. He was detained on Sunday (1 November) afternoon from a canteen of the hall.
Orko Saha was beaten during the detention. He was later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he received primary treatment. After treatment, he was handed over to Shahbagh police.
Eyewitnesses said Orko Saha used to visit Jagannath Hall frequently. On Sunday afternoon, while he was eating at a canteen of the hall, Chhatra Dal activists and students identified him and detained him.
He was later handed over to police in the presence of the hall administration and the university's proctorial team.
Jagannath Hall provost Professor Debashish Pal confirmed the matter. He said no seat is currently allotted at the hall in the name of any Chhatra League office-bearer; all of their seats were cancelled earlier. Orko Saha was known to visit the hall from time to time, he said.
The provost added that Orko Saha had been handed over to police, and that police and the relevant administration would look into taking legal action against him.
Dhruba Roy, a member of the Jagannath Hall Chhatra Dal convening committee, alleged that Orko Saha may have been involved in a recent cocktail explosion in front of the hall.
Shahbagh police station's officer-in-charge Md Moniruzzaman said Orko Saha is currently in police custody at the station, and the next steps will be decided after discussion with senior officials.
