Lions Linebacker Jack Campbell Left Motionless at Ford Field, Taken to Hospital

There was a serious and heartbreaking scene at Ford Field in Detroit on Sunday when Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell was left motionless following a violent collision on a tackle. He was removed from the field on an immobilized cart and taken to hospital.
After the play, when it became clear Campbell was in distress, trainers and doctors rushed onto the field. As he received attention, players from both teams kneeled and watched, and some seemed to pray.
Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson was visibly emotional, to the point that he seemed to be brought to tears, as a hush fell over the stadium.
On the play that led to the injury, Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson caught a pass in the middle of the field and was soon sandwiched by two Lions defenders, including Campbell.
Campbell arrived at the contact while falling to his knees and appeared to have his head slanted upward, so he made contact with his facemask rather than his shoulders and arms. His head and neck seemed to compress into his torso upon impact.
Campbell collapsed onto the field and did not appear to move. It took several minutes for medical personnel to complete their regimen for moving him.
The Lions announced that Campbell was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated for a neck injury.
After the game, Lions head coach Dan Campbell told reporters: "Our thoughts and prayers are with Jack and his family. He's being taken care of. We don't have any new information. We'll keep you updated as this goes, but we're thinking about him."
By the coach's account, no further update on Campbell's condition was immediately available.
