A business jet has crashed in the US state of Florida, killing all nine people on board. The crash happened on Sunday afternoon local time (November 1) near the Cresthaven area of Palm Beach County.

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed the deaths. He described it as a 'horrible tragedy.'

According to a BBC report, the crash happened at 12:50 p.m. local time. That was 10:50 p.m. Bangladesh time.

The crash site is about 14 kilometres from former US President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the Learjet 60 aircraft was travelling from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas.

After the crash, a large hole and fire were seen on the road at the scene. Wreckage from the aircraft was scattered across different parts of the road.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said the aircraft crashed on Military Trail, a six-lane road.

There are various businesses and eateries around the road. After the crash, people were advised for safety reasons to avoid the area and use alternative routes.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue declared the incident an emergency situation with a risk of mass casualties.

The identities of the people on board the aircraft were not immediately known.
