Chhatra Dal leader Imran arrested in Dumki over assault and snatching case filed by BNP leader

Police have arrested Chhatra Dal leader Shafiqul Islam Imran in a case filed over the alleged beating of Sreerampur Union BNP general secretary Md Khalil Jomaddar in Dumki upazila of Patuakhali and the snatching of 21,500 taka from him.
He was arrested from his own home in Dumki village in the upazila at around 9:30pm on Sunday (1 November).
The arrested Shafiqul Islam Imran is vice-president of the Government Janata College unit of Chhatra Dal. He is the son of Md Jalil Hawlader of the area.
According to the case statement, Khalil Jomaddar came under a sudden attack on Friday when he went to Taltali Bazar. According to the allegation, Chhatra Dal leader Imran and Rakib Hawlader, alias Koshai Rakib, along with seven to eight people beat him at that time and snatched 21,500 taka from his pocket.
Khalil Jomaddar himself filed the case as plaintiff over the incident. Imran has been named as accused number 2 in the case.
There are, however, counter-allegations between the two sides over the incident. On the evening of the incident, Chhatra Dal leader Shafiqul Islam Imran and Rakib claimed in separate Facebook live broadcasts that BNP leader Khalil Jomaddar had demanded 200,000 taka in extortion from them when they went to run a sand dredger business.
Dumki police station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Selim Uddin said the accused in the case was arrested in a raid on the basis of a specific complaint. Preparations are under way to produce him before court after completing the legal process.
