The municipality and upazila administration in Kaliakair, Gazipur, have issued a public notice warning house and flat owners, in a move to prevent outsiders from entering the area and possible sabotage centred on the workers' movement.

The public notice was issued on Monday afternoon in a joint initiative of the Kaliakair municipality and the upazila administration. It was signed by the municipality's administrator and the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO).

The notice says that if tenants of a house or flat shelter anyone who is not a member of their family, or if an outsider or a member of a criminal gang rents a home and stays there, the matter must be reported quickly to Kaliakair police station or the upazila administration.

The notice directs that if an outsider who is not a family member, or a member of a criminal gang, is staying at a tenant's home, police or the administration must be informed quickly.

House and flat owners have been requested to exercise special caution in this regard. The directive has been marked 'very urgent' in the notice.

The notice also says that if any untoward incident occurs because the directive is not followed, the owner of the house concerned will have to bear responsibility.

Kaliakair UNO A H M Fakhrul Hossain said the public notice was published so that outsiders cannot enter the area and create an unstable situation by taking advantage of the workers' movement, and that the initiative was also taken to avoid possible untoward incidents.

For the past few days, workers have been demonstrating and blocking roads in various parts of Gazipur demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000. The movement has affected Kaliakair the most.

The administration has called on house and flat owners to remain alert to keep the law-and-order situation normal and to avoid untoward incidents.
