Police have recovered a shotgun from a drain beside the Paturia truck terminal and the old river police outpost in Shibalaya upazila of Manikganj. The weapon was recovered at 7pm on Monday (2 November) from the area adjoining the Paturia ferry terminal in the upazila.

Shibalaya Police Station's officer-in-charge (OC) Aminul Islam confirmed the matter. He said the shotgun was found abandoned in the drain during a raid carried out on the basis of a secret tip-off.

OC Aminul Islam said, 'Members of the police force use this type of shotgun. But whether this is a police shotgun cannot be confirmed right now. Preliminarily, it is thought that it may be one of the weapons looted from police during the 2024 mass movement.'

Police said that after the fall of the government on 5 August 2024, police stations and police installations across the country came under attack, vandalism and looting. A large number of police weapons and ammunition were looted at that time, and some of those looted weapons have still not been recovered.

Police's preliminary assumption is that this shotgun, found abandoned in the Paturia ferry terminal area, may be one of those looted weapons.

However, police said verification is under way to confirm the weapon's origin and ownership.

The OC added that senior authorities have been informed following the recovery of the shotgun, and legal proceedings in the incident are under process.
