Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Mia Golam Parwar has described a research report by Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on the party's organisational structure as “false and misleading.”

In a statement on Monday (November 2), the Jamaat secretary said he strongly condemned the false information about Jamaat-e-Islami in TIB's research report titled “Institutional good governance of political parties in Bangladesh,” published on Sunday (November 1).

He said Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami practises democracy at all levels of the organisation in accordance with its constitution. At the same time, women's activities and committees exist at all levels of the organisation.

According to Golam Parwar, the information presented in the TIB report — that there is no participation of women in committees at Jamaat-e-Islami's central level — is false and misleading.

He said two of Jamaat-e-Islami's organisational forums are the central working council and the central Majlis-e-Shura. The existing central working council has 21 women members, and the central Majlis-e-Shura has 122 women members.

In addition, about 43 percent of the party's rukn (members) are women, according to the statement.

Golam Parwar said: “Therefore, publishing such a report based on false information by a responsible organisation like Transparency International is unwanted, unexpected and a sign of irresponsibility.”

He said he hoped for greater caution and responsibility in preparing any future publication or report about Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, which he described as a mass-oriented organisation.
