Bangladesh Coast Guard and US Army Begin Joint Exercise ‘Guardian Shark’ in Chattogram, to Run Until 25 November
The United States Army and the Bangladesh Coast Guard have begun a joint military exercise in Chattogram to strengthen disaster-response capability. The exercise, named ‘Guardian Shark’, will run until 25 November.
The exercise places special emphasis on training in swift-water rescue operations and medical care.
The information was given in a statement issued on Monday (2 November) by Mara Bard, acting spokesperson of the US Embassy in Dhaka.
The statement said the main goal of the exercise is to strengthen both forces' preparedness for emergencies and crises, and to build a common approach to joint planning and implementation.
Participants in the exercise will exchange their experience and effective methods, and will also take part in various drills designed to mirror real-life situations.
Through this, both forces' skills in saving lives during floods, cyclones and other natural disasters and emergencies are expected to improve further, the statement said.
The statement added that the ‘Guardian Shark’ exercise reflects the United States' commitment to working together with Bangladesh to meet shared regional security challenges.
Such joint exercises are deepening cooperation between the two countries. They also strengthen the two countries' shared commitment to building a free, open, safe and prosperous region, the statement noted.
