Student Maisha Killed by Bus Outside University Gate in Sitakunda, Two Classmates Injured

Staff Reporter

A student named Maisha Mushfirat was killed after being hit by a bus in front of the main gate of the International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC) in Sitakunda, Chattogram. Two of her classmates were injured in the incident.

The accident happened at around 9:20am on Tuesday (November 3) at Kumira on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway, in front of the university's main gate. The spot is opposite the Dallas petrol pump.

Maisha Mushfirat was a second-semester student of the university's Department of English Language and Literature (ELL).

According to eyewitnesses, a No. 8 local bus lost control in front of the university's main gate in the morning and hit the three students, leaving them seriously injured.

Local people and university students quickly rescued them and took them to Chattogram Medical College (CMCH) Hospital. Maisha died while undergoing treatment there. The other two injured students were admitted in serious condition, and one of them is in critical condition. Maisha's body has been kept at the hospital morgue.

Nusrat Jahan Eva, a fourth-year student of the English department, said the three students were coming to campus in the morning to serve as volunteers at a university programme when the No. 8 local bus hit them on the way.

Confirming the incident, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Alauddin Talukder of the CMCH Hospital police outpost said doctors declared the student dead after she was brought to the hospital.
