Cars swept away in Rhodes floods after torrential rain, dozens of homes and businesses damaged in Archangelos

Vehicles were swept away by floodwaters in the village of Archangelos, in the east of the Greek island of Rhodes, early on Monday (2 November) after heavy rain hit the area. According to local media, Archangelos reported the worst damage.

Cars and trucks were left partly submerged as powerful floodwater rushed through the streets, carrying rubbish bins and debris with it.

Homes in Archangelos were also flooded. Dozens of homes and businesses were affected, it was reported.

The full extent of the damage was still being assessed on Monday morning.

Although the rain had eased by Monday morning, meteorologists warned that further showers and thunderstorms were possible.

That warning means more disruption remains possible on the island of Rhodes.
