Jamaat leader Monirul Islam injured as puffed-rice packet explodes inside home in Dighalia

Jamaat leader M M Monirul Islam (63) has been injured in an explosion inside a house in Dighalia upazila of Khulna. The incident took place at around 5:45 in the morning on Tuesday (3 November) at his own home on the western side of Koler Pukur in Senhati of the upazila. Panic spread in the area after the loud blast.

Police and local sources said that in the early morning, M M Monirul Islam, president of a Jamaat unit in Senhati's Ward No. 7, returned home from the mosque after Fajr prayers and found puffed rice wrapped in a polythene packet in front of his door.

Thinking someone had mistakenly left it outside, he took the packet inside the house. The explosion occurred the moment he placed the packet on the floor of the room. Parts of his body were scorched and the furniture in the room caught fire.

Locals rushed in, brought the fire under control and rescued the injured Jamaat leader, taking him to the Dighalia Upazila Health Complex.

Dighalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arup Kumar Chowdhury confirmed the incident. He said the incident was mysterious. Evidence has been collected from the spot after receiving the news and the matter has been reported to higher authorities. Efforts are under way to find out the reason behind it.
