Mirza Faisal Amin has been sworn in as a Member of Parliament. On Tuesday (3 November), at the Speaker's office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed administered the oath to him as the member for parliamentary seat-3 (Thakurgaon-1). He was a banker in his professional life; from a bank job to the field of politics, and from there to becoming an MP, Faisal Amin has sparked fresh discussion in Thakurgaon politics.

The Thakurgaon-1 seat fell vacant after Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected President. Mirza Faisal Amin received the BNP nomination in the by-election for the seat. He formally began campaigning on 8 October with the sheaf of paddy symbol. During the campaign he pledged to build a Thakurgaon free of drugs, corruption and exploitation.

In the by-election held on 29 October, his main contest was with Md Delawar Hossain, the candidate of the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party unity. In the election, he received 227,917 votes on the sheaf of paddy symbol. His nearest rival Delawar Hossain received 96,513 votes. Faisal Amin won by a margin of 131,404 votes.

Raised in a political family in Thakurgaon, Mirza Faisal Amin is the younger brother of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. He was born on 26 December 1963 in the Kalibari area of Thakurgaon town, to Mirza Ruhul Amin and Fatema Begum. His late father Mirza Ruhul Amin was an influential politician in the district; he was elected MP several times and served as land and agriculture minister in 1986-87. His uncle Mirza Ghulam Hafiz was a former Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad and a minister. Faisal Amin is the youngest of seven siblings.

He was introduced to politics in the family's political environment. His initiation into politics came through taking part in his father's election campaign in 1979. But before becoming active in direct party politics, he finished his studies and began his professional life. Faisal Amin passed his secondary examination from Thakurgaon Government Boys' High School and higher secondary from Dhaka College. He later studied at Jahangirnagar University. After his studies, he began his career as an officer at IFIC Bank.

Although he began his career joining IFIC Bank as an officer, the safe and secure life of the banking profession could not hold him. From a desire to stay connected to his birthplace and its people, he left the bank job in 1991 and returned to Thakurgaon. He then became fully involved in BNP politics.

Faisal Amin has long been involved in district BNP politics and is currently president of Thakurgaon district BNP. He became a member of the BNP's national executive committee in August 2016; before that he also served as vice-president of the district BNP. On 24 May 2017, he was elected general secretary at the district BNP conference. After serving in that role for eight consecutive years, he was elected president at the district BNP conference on 8 September 2025.

Alongside party politics, Faisal Amin also has experience of running local government. In the Thakurgaon municipality election held on 30 December 2015, he was elected mayor as the BNP candidate. In that election he received 19,184 votes; his nearest rival received 12,744 votes. After re-voting in several centres, the final results were announced in January 2016. He took office as mayor on 22 February 2016 and served for five years until 2021. While mayor, he was involved in various activities including infrastructure development, road reconstruction and civic services in the municipal area.

Beyond politics, he is also involved in sports and cultural activities. On 25 May 2026, Faisal Amin was elected a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). He later received the responsibility of vice-chairman of the board's disciplinary committee. He is also associated with theatre and sports organisations.

Paygam Ali, an editor of Thakurgaon district BNP and a long-time political comrade of Mirza Faisal, said Faisal Amin has always moved forward with a goal. He dreamed of doing something for Thakurgaon. He wished Mirza Faisal, who came into politics following his father and brother, well.

A man who began his career as a bank officer, who once left professional security to stand beside the people of his birthplace in politics, is now going to the Jatiya Sangsad at the end of a long 35-year political journey. The expectation of the people of Thakurgaon now is that, as an MP, he will play an effective role in solving the district's development, employment, communication system, education, healthcare and long-standing civic problems.
