Bollywood actress Nora Fatehi has not been summoned as an accused in the Rs 200 crore extortion case but has been called as a witness, her lawyers have clarified. After questions were raised over her absence in a Delhi court, the lawyers gave the explanation and said she must appear before the court on November 6.

After reports suggested Nora had been summoned as an accused in the Sukesh Chandrashekhar-related case, her lawyers clarified the matter. They said Nora is not an accused in the case and no allegation of involvement in any crime has been brought against her; she has been summoned as a witness only to assist the court.

The Economic Offences Wing case linked to Sukesh Chandrashekhar came up on Tuesday (November 3) at Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court, where Nora was due to appear as a witness that day. Her lawyers told the court she could not appear because the summons was received at very short notice and she had prior professional commitments. An application seeking exemption from her personal appearance was also filed.

The hearing was then adjourned to November 6, 2026, and a fresh summons was issued for Nora to appear that day. Expressing displeasure at her absence, the court said: “She is a witness and she was supposed to be present here. Her conduct is not satisfactory. Do not take the court lightly.”

A special branch of Delhi Police is investigating the case against Sukesh Chandrashekhar. The court had earlier framed charges against Sukesh, his wife Leena Paul and others under Sections 170, 384 and 386 of the Indian Penal Code, covering offences such as cheating by impersonating a public servant and extortion by putting a person in fear. Charges have also been brought under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), 1999.

The police chargesheet had earlier mentioned recording the statements of several people, including Bollywood actresses Jacqueline Fernandez and Nora Fatehi. According to Nora’s legal team, her role in the case is that of a witness, and she will assist the judicial process by appearing in court on November 6.
