Surveyor Mohammad Asadul Islam of Dhaka's Lalbagh revenue circle has been caught red-handed taking a bribe of 100,000 taka in a trap operation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). He was detained from his own office on Tuesday (November 3).

The ACC said he was caught while taking 100,000 taka in cash from a service seeker in exchange for promises to determine land boundaries and carry out mutation.

ACC deputy director Md. Aktarul Islam confirmed the matter. He said there was an allegation against the detained surveyor of demanding a bribe of 8 million taka. On receiving the information, the ACC conducted a trap operation against him and caught him red-handed with the 100,000 taka.

A case has been filed against the detained surveyor at the Commission's Dhaka-1 district office. The ACC has completed the legal process to produce him before a court.

The ACC said the complainant, retired soldier Md. Monirul Islam, obtained registered irrevocable powers of attorney from the owners of a total of 282 decimals of land across various plots in Char-Kamrangi mouza under Lalbagh thana in Dhaka district.

On April 27, Monirul Islam applied to the Dhaka deputy commissioner for determination of the land's boundaries, separation of government and privately owned property boundaries, and preparation of a sketch map.

Over the following roughly six months, despite contacting the Lalbagh revenue circle multiple times, he could not get the boundary determination work completed. At one stage he was told to contact the office's surveyor, Mohammad Asadul Islam.

When Monirul Islam met the surveyor, Asadul Islam allegedly demanded a bribe of 8 million taka for the work, according to the complaint.

After the complainant informed the ACC, a special team from the Commission's Dhaka-1 district office verified the allegation and conducted the trap operation.
