Tahsif Death: Investigators Prepare to Question Patrol Police Over That Night at the Tongi Field

The investigation into the mysterious death of former Air Force Flight Lieutenant K M Tahsif Sauri has taken a new turn. Based on information given by Shahriar Reza Deep, who is on remand, the investigating team is preparing to question the patrol police members on duty that night to confirm exactly what happened at the field beside the Mazar Basti in Tongi. The information comes from sources linked to the investigation.
According to the source, when Tahsif was taking drugs sitting in front of BIWTA pillar No. 29 at the Tongi field, a police patrol team arrived there. Sensing the police presence, the local drug dealers around quickly fled.
At the same time, Deep also ran towards the riverbank to escape the police and hid behind pillar No. 29. Deep told interrogators on remand that within just two to three minutes of this chaos, he and Tahsif were separated.
The events of that night at the field beside the Mazar Basti in Tongi are now the main focus of the investigation into the recovery of Tahsif's body from the Turag River. The authorities have decided to question the patrol team to examine the statements of the police members responsible for security in the area on the night he went missing and the circumstances around the scene.
Local residents said there was a visible police patrol around the field that night. Tongi West police station has also acknowledged that its patrol teams are on duty in the area round the clock. The investigators' main aim now is to confirm whether there was actually a chase that night, or whether Tahsif fell into the river while hurriedly fleeing at the sight of the police.
Before his death, Tahsif had been involved in a dispute with his girlfriend. He then set off on a motorcycle with his junior friend Deep towards the Mazar Basti area of Tongi. CCTV footage of the incident shows Tahsif and Deep going through an alley of the Mazar Basti towards the field on the Turag bank. Some local women warned them not to go to the area at the time, but Tahsif ignored them and moved towards the field. Before that, Tahsif, Disha and Deep had together gone to a liquor bar in Uttara, where they spent an hour and a half.
Among the questions now before the investigation are whether there was a dispute involving the girlfriend, Nishat Tasnim Disha, who was with Deep and Tahsif at the Uttara bar, why Deep first spoke of being chased by unknown persons and later mentioned the police patrol, and whether Tahsif jumped into the river voluntarily, fell in by accident, or whether another criminal gang was involved.
Investigators are questioning Deep and Disha face to face at Uttarkhan police station in search of answers to these questions. They have given important information on remand, which is being verified. However, there is considerable doubt as to whether they are telling the whole truth. For this reason, Deep has been taken on remand again.
On the afternoon of October 28, Tahsif's floating body was recovered from the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat in Uttarkhan. On receiving the news through the 999 helpline, Tongi River Police recovered the body. No visible injury marks were found on the body during the inquest and autopsy.
Tahsif's father filed a murder case over the incident with Uttarkhan police station. Police arrested Tahsif's friend Ahmed Shahriar Reza Deep and Nishat Tasnim Disha in the investigation of the case. The river police are questioning them on remand.
