The government has changed the titles in the Union Parishad gram police force. From now on, the force's 'Dafadar' post will be known as 'Gram Police Pradhan' (gram police chief) and the 'Mohalladar' post as 'Gram Police'.

The Local Government Division has issued a gazette notification amending the rules on the matter. The change became known on Tuesday (November 3) from the notification of the Local Government Division under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives.

Senior Assistant Secretary of the Local Government Division Atikul Islam signed the notification by order of the President.

The notification says the amendment, issued on November 1, changes the 'Local Government (Union Parishad) Gram Police Force (Formation, Training, Discipline and Service Conditions) Rules, 2015'.

The government made the amendment under the powers given in sections 96 and 48 of the 'Local Government (Union Parishad) Act, 2009'. In the amended rules, the word 'Dafadar' has been replaced everywhere by 'Gram Police Pradhan' and 'Mohalladar' by 'Gram Police'.

The amended order will take effect immediately, the notification also said.
