Met Office Forecasts Six Cold Waves in December-January, Up to Three Could Be Severe
Six cold waves could sweep over the country in December and January, the Meteorological Department has forecast. Two to three of them could take a severe form.
The information came on Wednesday (4 November) from a Meteorological Department forecast. Meteorologist Md Mominul Islam provided the forecast details.
According to the forecast, four to six mild to moderate cold waves could sweep over the country during this period. Two to three of them could turn into severe cold waves.
According to the Meteorological Department's forecast, temperatures could fall to 8 to 10 degrees Celsius in a mild cold wave, 6 to 8 degrees in a moderate cold wave, and 4 to 6 degrees Celsius in a severe cold wave.
Meteorologist Md Mominul Islam said two to four low-pressure systems could form over the Bay of Bengal by January. One to two of those low-pressure systems could turn into cyclones.
Day and night temperatures could remain above normal during this period, the forecast said. Although autumn has arrived, the heat has not yet subsided; a touch of winter is usually felt at this time.
In addition, moderate to dense fog could occur in some places in the country and in river basins from late night to morning. Light to moderate fog is likely in other areas.
Because of dense fog, the difference between day and night temperatures could narrow. That could increase the feeling of cold, the forecast noted.
