MP's son Mintu sent to jail in Natore after second round of remand in student leader Shakil murder case

Nuruzzaman Mintu, a Jubo Dal leader and son of BNP MP Abdul Aziz of the Natore-4 constituency, arrested in the murder case of student leader Shakil in Gurudaspur upazila of Natore, has been sent to jail through the court after a second round of two-day remand.
On Wednesday (4 November) at noon, DB police brought him from the DB office to Natore General Hospital. After a health check there, he was produced before the Gurudaspur cognizance court.
Judicial Magistrate Mahmudul Hasan ordered Nuruzzaman Mintu to be sent to jail. He was later taken to jail under tight security.
The case's investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Shafiqul Islam of the district Detective Branch, said Mintu had been taken on a second round of two-day remand with the court's permission for further investigation of the Shakil murder case. After the remand ended, he was taken to court following a health check at the hospital.
On the night of 26 October, after news of Shakil's death spread, Natore Detective Branch (DB) police detained Nuruzzaman Mintu — son of Natore-4 (Baraigram-Gurudaspur) MP Abdul Aziz and joint convener of the upazila Jubo Dal — for questioning and took him to the DB office.
The next day Mintu was shown arrested and produced before the court, with police seeking a 10-day remand. The judge granted three days of remand at that time. Mintu was later taken on a second round of two-day remand.
Natore Additional Superintendent of Police Iftekhayer Alam said the police investigation into the murder of Chhatra Dal leader Shakil Islam is proceeding with importance, and raids are being carried out at various places based on information found in the investigation.
He said a total of three people have so far been arrested in the case. A motorcycle has also been seized in connection with the incident, the police official said.
Shakil Islam was attacked on the night of 14 October in the Chanchkoir Bazarpara area of Gurudaspur upazila.
Shakil Islam, member secretary of Gurudaspur municipal Chhatra Dal, later died on the night of 26 October while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Medical University Hospital.
