Primary schools to add 'Sports' and 'Culture' subjects, starting in class four next academic year, state minister Bobby Hajjaj says in Habiganj

Two new subjects named 'Sports' and 'Culture' are being added to primary education. The subjects will be introduced in class four from the next academic year, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has said.
He made the announcement on Wednesday (4 November) afternoon while speaking as chief guest at the inauguration of a reading circle titled 'Ananda Pather Asar for schools and libraries under Habiganj district' at the Habiganj District Shilpakala Academy.
The state minister said that by 25 November, all primary textbooks except the two added books will reach schools.
He also said the primary examination results will be announced on 24 December, and on the same day textbooks for the new academic year will be handed to students.
In reply to a question about the education rate in Sylhet Division being comparatively behind, the state minister said the number of children dropping out at the primary level is low. But for those who could not enter primary education even by the age of eight, a project named 'Alo' has been taken up.
He said that under the 'Alo' project, children aged 8 to 14 will be given special training in language and mathematics to achieve literacy and be brought back into the mainstream of primary and secondary education.
Deputy Commissioner Dr G M Sarfaraz chaired the programme, where Superintendent of Police Tarek Mahmud, Civil Surgeon Dr Ratnadip Biswas and District Education Officer Farida Nazmin spoke as special guests.
