Students from grade three to grade twelve in the country will get the opportunity to tour Bangabhaban, the official residence of the President. The initiative has been taken to introduce students to the country's history, constitutional system and state heritage.

The information comes from the ‘Policy on Bangabhaban visits by students of educational institutions, 2026’. The policy was recently sent from the President's Office to the Ministry of Education. The Technical and Madrasa Education Division later forwarded the policy to the relevant educational institutions with instructions to take necessary measures.

The policy says that through visiting Bangabhaban, students will gain a real and first-hand understanding of Bangladesh's history, state institutions, constitutional system and national heritage. Through this, patriotism, a sense of responsibility and national values will be further strengthened among them.

Asked about the initiative, Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Professor Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel told Ajker Patrika on Wednesday night: “When students get the opportunity to visit the President's residence, they will be inspired. It will help shape their future.”

He added that educational institutions interested in taking part in the programme must apply through the relevant directorate, and the directorate will coordinate the entire process.

Related sources say students of all educational institutions in the country will gradually get the opportunity to visit Bangabhaban, but applications must be made through the relevant directorate. For students of grades three to five, applications must be made through the Directorate of Primary Education.

For students of grades six to twelve, applications go through the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education; for madrasa students, through the Directorate of Madrasa Education; and for technical institutions, through the Directorate of Technical Education.

Under the policy, a total of one and a half hours is allotted for students to visit Bangabhaban. On the scheduled day, students will enter Bangabhaban at 10am. First they will visit the Toshakhana Museum, where a video on the history and activities of Bangabhaban will be shown.

After that, they will take photographs in front of the main building and tour the historic Air Raid Shelter and the deer park. The visit will end at 11:30am. However, the authorities may change this schedule for security or special state needs.

According to the policy, a minimum of 30 and a maximum of 40 students from each educational institution can take part in the visit, accompanied by three to four teachers or designated representatives. Students must wear their institution's prescribed uniform, and disciplined behaviour must be ensured.

The policy further says that for security reasons, students and teachers will not be able to carry mobile phones, cameras, smartwatches or any other electronic devices, or bags, inside Bangabhaban. Buses or other vehicles carrying students will also not be allowed to enter; vehicles must be left at the designated place and students will enter on foot.

The policy says Bangabhaban authorities will supply designated photographs to the institutions as a memento of the visit, for which institutions must bring a pen drive. Without the permission of the Bangabhaban authorities, no one may enter any place, touch any object or carry out any activity, and no damage may be caused to any structure, artifact, plant, animal or government property of Bangabhaban.
