National Citizen Party (NCP) convener and opposition chief whip Nahid Islam has said killed worker Toufik, who died in the ongoing movement, must be compensated in line with the ILO convention. He also demanded a proper investigation and trial of the incident, the unconditional release of arrested workers and the withdrawal of all unjustly filed cases.

Nahid Islam went to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Wednesday night (November 4) to see those injured in the attack at the gayebana janaza of killed worker Toufik in Gazipur. He made the remarks at a briefing for journalists afterwards.

Calling on workers to continue the movement until the demands are met, Nahid told worker brothers and sisters to stay alert. He said, 'We are in favour of the workers' just, non-violent and peaceful movement.'

He also said, 'You will continue the movement. The people of Bangladesh are with you.'

The opposition chief whip said the fascist Awami League would try to benefit from violence. Attempts would be made to suppress workers through state torture and repression, he said, calling for the movement to continue against both forces.

Nahid Islam alleged that leaders and activists of Jatiya Sramik Shakti were injured in an attack on a completely peaceful programme.

Also present at the time were NCP senior joint convener Ariful Islam Adib, party MP Abdullah Al Amin and Jatiya Chhatrashakti president Baker Majumdar, among others.
