Teacher arrested over alleged sexual harassment of student in Alamdanga suspended

Md Inamul Haque, acting head teacher of Al Helal Government Primary School in Alamdanga, Chuadanga, who was arrested over an allegation of sexually harassing a student, has been suspended. The order was issued on Wednesday from the district primary education office.

The suspension has taken effect from Tuesday, the day of his arrest. District Primary Education Officer Ahindra Kumar Mondal confirmed the matter, saying the decision was taken on the recommendation of the Alamdanga upazila education officer.

Under Note-2 of Rule 73 of Part-1 of the Bangladesh Service Rules (BSR), a government employee's suspension takes effect from the day of arrest. During the suspension period, teacher Inamul Haque will receive subsistence allowance under the rules.

Earlier, on Monday, an allegation of indecent behaviour towards a student of Al Helal Government Primary School was raised against acting head teacher Inamul Haque. When the incident became known, anger spread among the student's guardians and local people.

At one point they gathered at the school and confined the accused teacher there. Another account said angry people locked him inside a classroom of the school from outside.

On receiving the information, police went to the spot, brought the situation under control and took the accused teacher into custody to the police station. The child's father later filed a case as plaintiff. On Tuesday, police showed him arrested and produced him before the court.

Legal proceedings in the case are ongoing.
