Staff Reporter

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch (DB) has shown Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury — information adviser to ousted former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former chairman of television channel DBC — arrested in an anti-discrimination murder case filed with Jatrabari police station.

Additional Police Commissioner (DB) Md Shafiqul Islam confirmed the matter at around 12:45am on Wednesday night (November 4).

He said Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury has been shown arrested in the anti-discrimination murder case (case number 23) of Jatrabari police station.

The additional DB commissioner said a murder case was filed with Jatrabari police station on August 26, 2024, and he has been shown arrested in that case.

Earlier, Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury had been detained from the DBC News office in the Amtoli area of Mohakhali in the capital. After the detention, he was taken to the DB office and interrogated. He had been serving as acting chairman of DBC News.

Meanwhile, Additional Police Commissioner (DB) Md Shafiqul Islam denied that DBC News journalist Rajib Ghosh had been shown arrested in any case. He said Rajib Ghosh was not brought to the DB.
