Tahsif Murder Case: Court Grants Girlfriend a Further Three Days on Remand in Second Phase
A court has ordered a further three days of remand in a second phase for the girlfriend arrested in the murder case over the recovery of the body of former Air Force officer Tahsif Sauri. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Manjurul Islam's court passed the order after a hearing on Wednesday afternoon (4 November).
Earlier, after her four-day remand ended, the investigation officer, Inspector Firoz Uddin of the Naval Police's Tongi outpost, produced her before the court and sought a fresh seven days of remand.
The investigation officer stated in the application that while on remand the young woman gave several important pieces of information, she tactfully evaded answers to many questions.
The application said that as another accused in the case, Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dip, is currently on remand in police custody, the two accused need to be questioned face to face and cross-checked to verify consistencies and inconsistencies in their statements.
The investigation officer also stated that intensive questioning is needed to determine whether there was any argument or relationship strain between them at various restaurants in Uttara on the day of the incident, to uncover the main mystery of the killing, and to arrest other unknown accused.
On the other hand, defence lawyers sought cancellation of the remand and bail, which the prosecution strongly opposed. After hearing both sides, the court granted three days of remand.
Tahsif went missing after leaving home on 27 October, and his body was recovered the next day, 28 October, from the Rajabari Ghat area of the Turag River.
The victim's father, K M Enayetul Karim, filed a murder case with Uttarkhan Police Station against unknown persons over the incident.
