University of Dhaka again tops Bangladesh in QS Asia rankings, placed 136th in Asia
The University of Dhaka has once again held the top position among Bangladeshi universities in an international ranking. In the 'World University Rankings: Asia 2027' published by the UK-based international education and research organisation Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the institution ranks first among the country's universities. Among universities across Asia, the University of Dhaka stands 136th, and among South Asian universities it is 16th.
QS published the Asia University Ranking on Tuesday (3 November). The information was announced on Wednesday (4 November) in a press release sent from the University of Dhaka's public relations office.
The University of Dhaka also secured the top position among Bangladeshi universities last year. The university has therefore consistently maintained its standing among the country's higher education institutions on the international stage.
This year's ranking includes a total of 1,722 universities from 26 Asian countries. The University of Hong Kong took first place. China's Peking University is in second place. The list is published on the basis of evaluations of education, research, international engagement and institutional capacity of universities across Asian countries.
University of Dhaka Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A B M Obaidul Islam described the university's position in the international ranking as a matter of joy and pride. He said the position is a source of joy and pride for the university, and that consistently holding the top place among Bangladeshi universities is a recognition of the combined efforts of teachers, students, researchers and everyone concerned.
The Vice-Chancellor also said that merely holding a position in the ranking is not the university's goal. Work is under way to further strengthen the University of Dhaka's standing internationally by improving the quality of education and research.
He said enriching the university's education and research environment, expanding research facilities, extending international cooperation and creating opportunities for students to acquire world-class skills are among the authorities' top priorities. According to the Vice-Chancellor, the cooperation of the university's teachers, students, alumni and all concerned is extremely important in achieving these goals.
Several indicators are considered in determining positions in the QS Asia University Rankings. These include academic reputation, faculty-student ratio, the quality and impact of research, the number of faculty members holding PhDs, international research collaboration, and the presence of international faculty and students.
Universities' overall positions are assessed on the basis of these indicators, which reflect various aspects of education and research quality, international engagement and institutional capacity.
