Dhaka University again tops Bangladesh in QS Asia rankings, placed 136th in Asia
Dhaka University has once again topped the list of Bangladeshi universities in the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2027, published by the UK-based international education and research organisation Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
In this year's list, Dhaka University stands 136th among universities in Asia and 16th in South Asia.
QS published the ranking on 3 November 2026.
A total of 1,722 universities from 26 Asian countries were placed in this year's ranking. The University of Hong Kong holds the first position, and China's Peking University is second.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A B M Obaidul Islam described Dhaka University's position in the international ranking as a matter of joy and pride.
The vice-chancellor said holding the top position among Bangladeshi universities consistently was a recognition of the combined efforts of teachers, students, researchers and everyone concerned. He said the goal was not merely to hold the position in the ranking, but that they were working to strengthen Dhaka University's standing internationally by improving the quality of education and research.
He added that enriching the university's teaching and research environment, increasing research facilities, expanding international cooperation and creating opportunities for students to gain global-standard skills were among the priorities. The cooperation of teachers, students, alumni and all concerned was very important in achieving these goals, he said.
Positions in the QS Asia University Rankings are determined on the basis of indicators such as academic reputation, faculty-student ratio, the quality and impact of research, PhD-holding faculty, international research collaboration, and international teachers and students.
Dhaka University also held the top position among Bangladeshi universities last year, and has maintained that continuity this year as well.
