In this year's HSC and equivalent examinations, not a single student passed from 293 educational institutions across the country. The Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee has summoned the heads of these institutions to learn the reasons behind the result disaster.

It has also sought information on the institutions' student numbers, pass rates, teacher numbers and educational activities over the past five years.

After reviewing this information, recommendations will be sent to the Ministry of Education within a week to take action against the institutions concerned.

Meanwhile, a decision has been made to issue show-cause notices to 25 zero-pass institutions under the Dhaka Education Board. The other education boards are also being instructed to take necessary action.

The education administration has said that if zero-pass results recur repeatedly, punitive measures such as cancelling an institution's teaching recognition and stopping its MPO could be taken.

However, there is also a plan not to close down institutions that grew up in an unplanned way, but instead to merge or reorganise them with nearby institutions. This would keep teachers' jobs intact.

Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman, chairman of the Dhaka Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education and president of the Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, said the heads of the zero-pass institutions would be called in and asked for the reasons behind the result disaster. Further action will be taken after reviewing their statements and the information they provide.
